Tenacious D Returns With Awesome Video Promoting Upcoming Album, ‘Rize of the Fenix’

Tenacious D Returns With Awesome Video Promoting Upcoming Album, ‘Rize of the Fenix’: The self-proclaimed greatest band of all time has returned.

Tenacious D, the heavy metal duo made up of comic actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass, is back after a six-year hiatus with a promotional video for their upcoming album, "Rize of the Fenix," and an eagerly awaited (by the band) summer tour.

The six-minute clip features cameos by Jimmy Kimmel, Tim Robbins, Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, "Extra" host Maria Menounos and Val Kilmer, who seems ready to take a bullet for his celebrity pal Black.

"Some called them kings, others called them gods, but one thing everyone agreed on was that Tenacious D was more talented than the Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin combined, but when their film 'Pick of Destiny' failed to perform at the box office, these two king-gods tasted mortality," deadpans Menounos in a mock "Extra" segment.

And the video gets sillier from there, documenting the fictional breakup of the band, Gass' escape from a mental institution, his reunion with Black over the course of a two-week epic hug that ends all wars on the planet and their realization that they've forgotten how to play music.

That leads to a training montage to the tune of "To Be the Best," a track from the new album that sounds heavily influenced by Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" from the original "Karate Kid" soundtrack.

"Rize of the Fenix" will be released on May 15, and Tenacious D's world tour kicks off eight days later at the Santa Barbara Bowl in California. The band will also play at the Download Festival in Britain's Donnington Park on June 9.
