Eyes Wide Open Without Surgery

Cosmetic surgeons have made great strides in the non-surgical beautification and rejuvenation of the eyelid and brow area with injectable dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers. Whereas eyelid surgery can improve skin and fat positioning, it doesn’t really address skin quality, fine lines and wrinkles. Surgery and minimally invasive treatments are perfect complementary therapies to rejuvenate the all important upper third of the face that can really reveal your age.
Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon Dr. Z Paul Lorenc (http://www.lorenc.com) performs a technique he calls a ‘Chemical Brow Lift’ with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® to smooth the deep, persistent lines between the brows and to soften crow’s feet and furrows. “The muscles of the brow area are considered push and pull muscles – they allow you to raise and lower your brows and also cause furrows to form over time. In the glabellar lines, altering the way the brow depressors (corrugator and procerus muscles) work is a very effective technique. A softening of the brow depressors leaves the brow elevator muscles unopposed, which creates the effect of a mini brow lift for many patients.” Tiny injections are administered to relax the muscles that cause these dynamic lines caused by muscle movement to form, and keeps them relaxed for up to four to six months. Your brows can be raised by injecting botulinum toxin into the inner brow, outer brow, or both, as needed. To create a complete brow lift, the outer brow depressors may be treated as well to weaken the downward pull of the orbicularis oculi muscle. The effect usually appears within two to four days after the treatment.
According to Long Island Facial Plastic Surgeon Jon B. Turk, M.D. (http://www.jonturkmd.com), “BOTOX® Cosmetic is the incredibly popular non-surgical wrinkle therapy that relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, reducing the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet. Small amounts injected into the muscle in just minutes can decrease lines and elevate the brows, providing a more youthful, relaxed look to the face.”
The under eye area or tear troughs are another region that tends to deepen over time as soft tissues break down and skin gets thinner. New York City Plastic Surgeon Bryan G. Forley (http://www.drforley.com) uses the hyaluronic acid filler Juvederm® XC as well as conservative fat transfer in some cases to reduce dark circles by filling in under eye hollows with a syringe. “Injecting around the delicate eyelid area takes a greater amount of skill and restraint. We can achieve a pleasing improvement safely and effectively with this simple, non-invasive office procedure. Even a small amount of Juvederm® can produce a very visible result and lasts up to a year.” Fat grafting is a two stage procedure; the surgeon extracts the fat from the hip or tummy area, processes it, then injects tiny amounts to smooth the lower eyelid area.
Another way to rejuvenate the eyes and brow area is to enhance your brows with Latisse®, the only FDA approved drug that has been shown to grow longer, darker, thicker lashes in 8-12 weeks. According to New York Plastic Surgeon David M. Shafer (http://www.shaferplasticsurgery.com), “With continued use, we have found that using Latisse® three to four times a week is sufficient for most people to maintain the dramatic lash enhancing results they achieve.”
Treatments with Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Juvederm® XC and other filling substances present a seamless way to defy your age without a major investment of time and money.
