I think its a great comparison! Its a good way to measure performance of the portable and ultra-portable niche. I like the idea of adding the iPad because it it often factored in when you are looking at the $700 - $1200 price range.
I would like to see the speed comparisons between the original MBA with conventional storage vs. MBA Solid State storage vs. MBA with flashed-based storage! That would be an awesome comparison!
I want to see how big of an advantage Flash storage is over SSD. . . If any.

Nothing to do with the Air.... but Firefox 4.0 has a confirmed memory leak that will eventually choke your OS, unless you shut down FF frequently.
Not worth it IMO, until they get this fixed. There is also an issue with tabs and with startup remembering previous sessions.

And there is PAYE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAYE) in the UK.

If all he wants is extra drive space for downloads, get the regular with an external drive. The price per GB is much smaller.
Also, no iLife with server versions. You can buy that separately.

Hi everyone
I have recently tried to install windows XP on my mac. What i think happened, was that i THOUGHT i was using bootcamp, but in fact it tried to install XP as the main operation system. In any case, i was stuck in the XP setup blue screen, without being able to complete the installation, get back to OS or even get the XP installer disc out. After spamming the Disc removal key, i finally got the disc out, but when i restarted the mac, a flashing folder showed up. I found out this was because the computer could not find a operating system to boot by. I plugged in the installation disc and tried to repair the disc but it could not. I finally gave up and tried to reinstall the whole thing, but it could not find the harddisc.
What i am asuming happened is: I must have said yes, when the XP setup asked me if i wanted to format the disc. This (ofcause) ment i could no longer run OS on the disc. I realise all my school work, notes and files are gone, what i want now is just my computer back with OS. How do i format the disc back so that i can reinstall OS on it? Please help, and yes i know it was very stupid to format the disc in the first place.

Eureka! Removing the comments out of the script in the header fixed the Firefox issues.

That's the first thing I tried.. I installed over. I tried uninstalling first by dragging Safari to AppZapper but it "refused" to zap it...
AppZapper, AppCleaner, CleanApp, TrashMe, and similar apps do not do a thorough job of removing all files/folders related to deleted apps. I tested several of these, using Skype as the app to be removed. Of 17 items to be removed:
AppZapper missed 13 items
AppCleaner missed 11 items
AppDelete missed 8 items
Hazel missed 9 items
I also tested AppTrap, CleanMyMac and a few others, but don't recall how many items they missed. All left files/folders behind. In most cases, they remove .plist files and a few others, but leave behind much larger files and folders. (you will find a discussion of these tests in the thread linked below)
One app that I would not recommend, based on the number of complaints that have been posted in this forum and elsewhere, is CleanMyMac. As an example: CleanMyMac cleaned too much (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=709930)
The only effective method for complete app removal is manual deletion:
Best way to FULLY DELETE a program (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11171082&postcount=16)

Windows 7 Home. I tried that resolution and got about 35 fps. I think I prefer the visuals at a slighty higher resolution and decent fps. Crysis 2 is easier to experiment with different resolutions than Metro 2033 ($10 on Steam!). Metro seems a little more challenging to find the right balance. I am not complaining at all considering I know my Air is not something for hardcore gaming, but I am always amazed how well it performs considering it's size and thiness.

[QUOTE=MitthrawnuruodoByt, yes, getting animations lean enought is quite a hassle...[/QUOTE]
Yes, which makes a good animated tar a real trick. :D
Color management is the key, though.

Actually, the big display prices *must* come down soon, because regular 32" tv can be bought for 500 euros nowadays. A display which has HDMI input, which means it can be connected to a DVI computer card rather easily.
Now I don't mean to say that a regular 32" TV that costs 500 would compete with a 30" ACD in terms of colour accuracy or top resolution, but I'm saying if someone wants a big display it can be done for peanuts. And as people discover this they're not going to buy "overpriced" computer displays that are meant for one purpose only.
No HDTV competes with the resolution of a 30" COMPUTER monitor...
Apples and oranges, man.

Does it have a self-assigned IP when it drops out?
If so, try renaming your wireless network. This has fixed this issue a number of times for me recently.

GPS is one of the least-discussed potential Apple gadget features, but one of the ones I'd most be interested in! (Not for iPhoto, although that would be cool :) I want a GPS for street navigation and for geocaching.)

The replacement TiBook could well have 2 or 3 dead/stuck pixels so you could end up worse off.
Maybe try massaging it out with your finger and a soft cloth, you can do this with suck pixels (red, green, blue) but obviously not with dead ones... (grey/black)
Apple are no different from other companies in this respect though!!

This looks like just another sim overlay solution. Nothing is done to the phone. They use a small IC and just trick the phone into thinking it has an authorized sim in it.
These are not new.
No it is not. The unlock is done through iTunes.

Completing my Final Cut project tonight. I have been down the last few days because for some reason F@H will suck away power from FCP, even tho it is not supposed to (same with F@H and Pro Tools).
Anyway, hopefully I will be back up tomorrow and booted in Windows with bigadv and GPU to make up some lost time.;)

I think these are great improvements. I have been waiting forever for decent OpenGL performance on par with windows. Also resolution independence is the best thing since sliced bread.
Now the compaints against high-res screens producing small fonts can be put to rest forever. We can always opt for a higher res screen and not have to worry about going blind.
Now if only Apple would address the s-s-s-s-l--l---l---oo-oooo-----w---w--wwww finder. I'll be in heaven.

From my experience, yours, and the previous generation of iMacs have great, loud sound. I'd guess the eMac's speakers are just mediocre. Try using headphones.
