Has the tough economy cut into demand for plastic surgery? Hardly. Demand for cosmetic procedures rose almost 9 percent last year, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
"These numbers mirror what we have been hearing across the country this past year," the society's president, Dr. Felmont EavesIII, said in a written statement. "Patients who put off surgery because of uncertainty in the economy and the job market are coming back for tried and true procedures."
He was talking about things like breast augmentation and reduction, liposuction, eyelid surgery, and abdominoplasty - five cosmetic surgery procedures the society calls most common.
And when people do look to plastic surgeons to improve their looks, many say they want the specific body part in question made to resemble that of a particular Hollywood celebrity.
"Patients continue to look to Hollywood to determine their standard of beauty," Dr. Richard W. Fleming, a Los Angeles-based plastic surgeon, said in a written statement.
From noses, lips, and chins to hair and skin, Dr. Fleming and his partner keep track of the most-requested celebrity body parts. Which celebs got the most nods this year? Click here to find out.
