DJ Steve Aoki Kid Millionaire has risen from throwing impromptu concerts in his living room while a student at UC Santa Barbara in the late 90’s to become one of the most sought after DJs in the country. Deemed the music tastemaker by those in the know, his ear for music paired with his ability to drop party rocking beats has championed dance floors night after night. Whether providing the indie soundtrack to his wildly popular Tuesday night at Cinespace in LA (which also showcases the hippest up-and-coming bands) or dropping the biggest party hits at Hollywood’s LAX and NYC’s Marquee, Steve Aoki has become a jack-of-all-trades. Between his daily treks touring the country (and lately as far a field as London and Japan) he manages to run one of the most respected indie labels in the country, Dim Mak (founded bands such as The Kills, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Von Bondies and others and also currently home to Bloc Party, The Rakes, Moving Units, Scanners, Pony Up, Whitey etc.) as well as promote his own nights in LA & NYC featuring any band looking to make it (yes they all played for him first: The Bravery, Bloc Party, M.I.A., Lady Sovereign, She Wants Revenge, Wolfmother, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Spankrock and the list goes on).

Mic Check: Pittsburgh Slim

If you're into electric , pop ,rock and hip-hop then check out Pennsylvania native Sied Chahrour, aka Pittsburgh Slim, went from local hero to hip-hop superstar in late 2007.Slim began rapping at the age of 12, all the while playing guitar in several post-punk bands. The eclecticism helped shape his unique sound which finds the Pennsylvania native laying smooth rhymes over mashed-up beats that sample everyone from Devo to Rihanna. The half-Mexican, half-Algerian Chahrour first came on the scene in 1996 when he helped form Pittsburgh's popular rap crew Strict Flow. The group pressed their own debut album, Homegrown, in 1997 before being signed to J-Live's Raw Shack label in 1999. That same year their "People on Lock" single appeared, but the title to their 2002 release Without Further Ado referenced how slow things were moving for the crew. They dissolved after the album's release, so Slim was off to Los Angeles to get closer to the music business. He waited tables by day and shopped his music by night until his longing to see "Girls Kiss Girls" turned into a song. The incredibly infectious song began breaking on radio not in L.A., but back home in Pittsburgh, thanks to the city's KISS FM radio station. From there it began to make an impression on both coasts and offers to relaunch the single came in from some high-profile labels. None of the labels were looking for an album, and while Slim was well aware the song was a novelty hit, he also knew he still had the indie rap skills that made Strict Flow well respected, so he held out for a long-term deal. He got it after a meeting with Def Jam executive Jay-Z. The label released Slim's seven-track Tastemaker Album at the end of 2007. It was promoted by a "Girls Kiss Girls" video. Mic Check : Rahsaan a.k.a. God's Favorite Rapper

This weeks Mic Check goes to Rahsaan of Renegade Music/G-Town Music Group. A Brooklyn native, Rahsaan has proven to be one the hottest emcees coming up, not to mention he's one of the greatest performers I've seen on stage thus far. This Guyana born native, is a former menswear designer/spokes model for MECCA USA, which won his collections features on cast members in HBO's TV series THE WIRE. He has opened up on the road for Young Jeezy, Keysha Cole, Dipset, Talib Kwali and he list continues. He was the winner of SO SO DEF's Future Star Talent Search, and flown to Atlanta, GA to perform at Jermaine Dupri's Birthday Party. He has also done some acting in commercials for both BET and MTV. In 2007 he released a Street Album titled God's Favorite Rapper, which included two of my favorite tracks"Little Ghette Boy" and "Nigga What".

On Wednesday January 30, 2008, Rahsaan will be receiving an award at the 1st Annual Underground and Indie (U-N-I) Award Show for BEST MALE SOLO PERFORMER for 2007, brought to you by Shining Star Productions and Music Notes Magazine. This event will take place at Club Snitch, 59 W. 21st Street, New York, N.Y. at 8:00pm. StreetCosignor will be in the building!

Mic Check: Medina a.k.a. The Six Million Dollar Man

Medina aka Six Million Dollar Man, hails from Newark, NJ. He's a ghostwriter, rapper and right now being chased by major labels, including Aftermath. He has done some tracks with the likes of Timbaland, Polow Da Don, Nappy Roots, Dr. Dre, Mark Batson, as well as Carlos Santana. He is also about to drop 2 mixtapes, "Flatbush 2 Simpson Rd" which is hosted by Spinderella from the female rap group Salt & Pepa and "Block 2 Boardroom". His debut album “Even Superman Dies” will follow. He also has a track titled "The Yeah Yeahs" which will be on the Sex in the City Movie Soundtrack in '08.
