Cosmetic surgeon in court for setting patient's breast on fire

| A medical tribunal is now trying Dr Christina Brunner who has been accused of dishonesty and misleading the patient by allegedly instructing staff at the London Welbeck Hospital to "keep quiet" about the fire incident after the breast lift operation, the 'Daily Express' reported. In fact, the General Medical Council tribunal in Manchester heard yesterday that the German-born doctor set the operating table alight with a piece of surgical equipment causing a blister mark to the woman patient's right breast. But as the patient was coming round from her anaesthetic, 45-year-old Dr Brunner allegedly instructed nurses to keep quiet about what had happened and told them she would blame the injury on an allergic reaction. And the doctor also allegedly told staff at the London Welbeck Hospital to "extensively dress" the patient's chest so visitors wouldn't spot the injury, the tribunal heard. "At the end of the procedure the breast looked red and raw, and blistering started. Dr Brunner said 'I am going to tell her, the patient, it's an allergic reaction', which is a strange thing to say. "I thought she might be joking. She said she didn't want anyone talking to the patient as that was her job. I said to her it is best to tell the patient the truth as honesty is the best policy, but she didn't respond," anaesthetist Dr Nada Hadi, who allegedly saw what happened, told the tribunal. | |
